He did forswear his native soil To seek the maid that he did love He braved the storms and perils toil To win her grace and her approve
But when he came unto her place He found her wed to one more fair She had forgot his tender face She had no pity for his care
He left with grief and bitter woe He had no joy or hope to live He cursed the stars that made him so And wished that he had nought to give
She was his sun, his moon, his star He loved her with a passion true He traveled long and traveled far To be with her and to renew
But lo, he found her not alone She had another in her arms She had betrayed him and his throne She had forsaken all his charms
He wept and wailed and rent his hair He had no solace or relief He wished that he had not been there And drowned himself in endless grief
