A Cahya Legawa's Les pèlerins au-dessus des nuages

Gambarkan benda yang begitu melekat dengan Anda semasa kecil. Bagaimana dampaknya pada Anda?

Ten-year-old Pipkin bounced in his worn saddle, his knobbly knees barely grazing the handlebars of his trusty steed, ‘Rusty’. Rusty wasn’t much to look at – a Frankensteinian patchwork of spare parts, with handlebars liberated from a lawnmower and a seat reupholstered with an old granny square blanket. But to Pipkin, Rusty was a rocket ship, a pirate ship, a trusty steed galloping through emerald fields of imagination.

Today’s journey commenced in Pipkin’s village, which was nestled among countless emerald paddies that glistened like a myriad of shattered mirrors in the morning sunlight. He skillfully maneuvered through the playful water buffaloes, their hides covered in mud resembling crinkled armor, while deftly avoiding the chickens that scattered like popped kernels in front of an eager rooster.

The dirt track quickly transformed into a narrow path, cutting through a serene forest. Sunlight filtered through the trees, creating a dance of light on the moss-covered ground. Pipkin, now a brave knight, wielded a stick as his mighty sword, slaying imaginary dragons hiding among the ancient oaks. Suddenly, a twisted branch caught his makeshift blanket-seat, causing him to tumble amidst a cascade of leaves and laughter.

As Pipkin emerged from the woods, he encountered a path that intersected with a shimmering ribbon of a river. Balancing precariously on a rickety wooden bridge, he heard the mischievous gurgling of the water below. Curiously, he tossed a pebble, observing as it skipped effortlessly across the water’s surface, resembling a miniature boat on a liquid highway. Suddenly, a flash of turquoise caught his attention. It was a kingfisher, its jeweled feather fluttering against the blue backdrop, serving as a fleeting but enchanting reminder of the magic intertwined within the ordinary.

The path on the other side led to another village, this one a riot of colour and commotion. A gaggle of geese chased him, their honking a comical serenade, until a kindly old woman shooed them away with a laugh and a wave. Pipkin parked Rusty under a mango tree, its shade a welcome respite from the midday sun. He devoured a sticky rice cake; the sweetness exploding in his mouth like sunshine, and traded stories with a group of children, their laughter echoing through the dusty streets.

As the sun sank beneath the horizon, casting fiery hues across the sky, Pipkin reluctantly mounted Rusty once again. The journey back home was filled with a tranquil silence, a sense of contentment resonating within him. He observed the fireflies gracefully dancing in the twilight, their minuscule lanterns flickering like whispered secrets exchanged between him and the rustling fields.

Arriving at his village, Pipkin propped Rusty against the well he knew so well, his heart brimming with the day’s remarkable escapades. Though he was merely a boy on a wobbling bicycle, in his imagination, he had traversed vast oceans, subdued mighty dragons, and unveiled secret realms. And he understood that, without a doubt, this was the grandest adventure of all.

Rusty might have been a rusty mess of mismatched parts, but for Pipkin, it was a passport to a world of endless possibilities. And that, dear reader, is the magic of childhood, where even the most ordinary becomes extraordinary, fueled by a boundless imagination and a trusty two-wheeled companion. So, the next time you see a child on a rickety bike, remember, you might just be witnessing the birth of a grand adventure.
