Apa makna menjadi pribadi yang baik?

On Becoming Good
And a youth said, Speak to us of becoming good.
And he answered, saying:
You ask of goodness as one might ask of a river, “Where is your destination?” But the river knows not its ending, only its flowing.
To become good is not to arrive at a city, but to walk the road with open hands.
Consider the seed beneath the dark earth. It does not say, “I shall become a perfect tree.” It breaks, it pushes upward, it reaches toward a light it cannot see. And in this breaking, this reaching, it finds its meaning.
So too the soul. You are not a statue to be carved into perfection, but a garden to be tended in all seasons.
The man who seeks to be good by following rules is like one who paints by numbers—the picture is correct, but the heart is absent.
The man who seeks to be good by comparing himself to others is like one who measures the ocean with a cup.
But the one who seeks goodness for its own sake is like the morning star—it shines not because it is commanded, but because it is its nature to shine.
And what is goodness, you ask?
It is the tear you shed for a stranger’s sorrow. It is the bread you break for one who cannot repay. It is the silence you keep when words could wound.
It is the courage to be tender in a world that worships hardness.
It is the strength to be humble when all around you demand pride.
It is the wisdom to know that you are dust and starlight, both.
Do not despise your failures, for they are your teachers. The broken pot reveals the potter’s hands. The fallen branch makes room for new growth.
The good person is not one who has never stumbled, but one who rises each time with softer knees and a more compassionate heart.
You ask, “How shall I begin?”
Begin with the small. The cup of water given in love is greater than the fortune given for praise.
Begin with the near. How can you love humanity if you cannot love the one who stands beside you?
Begin with the now. Yesterday is a ghost, tomorrow is a dream. Only this breath, only this moment, is yours to make holy.
And know this: the path of goodness is not a ladder to be climbed alone. We rise together, or we do not rise at all.
The saint and the sinner are not so far apart—both are travelers in need of mercy.
The wise and the foolish drink from the same well.
So do not hold your goodness like a treasure to be guarded, but scatter it like seeds upon the wind. Some will fall on stone, some on shallow soil, but some—ah, some will find the deep earth and bloom in a garden you may never see.
And in the end, what is the meaning of becoming good?
It is to become transparent, so that the light which is not yours may shine through you.
It is to become empty, so that the song which is not yours may sing through you.
It is to become nothing, so that love—which is everything—may have its way.
For you are not the lamp. You are the glass through which the flame appears.
And when you have forgotten yourself, when you have ceased to strive and simply are—in that moment, you shall know that goodness was never something you became.
It was always what you are.
